How We’re Celebrating LGBT Pride Month Career Blog - June 16, 2017

At Fannie Mae, we see the month of June as a time to re-engage our commitment to fostering a more inclusive environment. And as the Executive Sponsor for Live Openly and the Chief Diversity Officer, we are excited that this year's pride month has provided an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments and the inclusion of the LGBTQ community within the walls of Fannie Mae.

We are proud to work for a company that supports and encourages employees to bring their whole selves to work. Fannie Mae, with support from The Office of Diversity and Inclusion, works tirelessly to create a safe environment where all employees are valued and able to contribute to their work in positive ways. And the Live Openly Employee Resource Group (ERG) has worked tirelessly to educate, develop, and expand their reach internally and externally to build the inclusive community we have here today.

This work has led to the development of some very exciting opportunities for employees to help celebrate and support their efforts during the month of June and beyond.

This month marks the launch of the LGBTQ Resource Center, which serves as a centralized place to find internal resource links to LGBTQ questions/issues related to HR benefits or life events, workplace anti-discrimination policies, the Live Openly ERG, and external resources.

For those seeking opportunities to become allies, we’re holding the first ever Ally Training Session sponsored by the Live Openly ERG and the Legal Department’s Inclusion and Development Legal University (IDLU) in July! PFLAG (Parents & Friends of Lesbian and Gays) will customize a training session on the various ways employees can become supportive allies. In this session, participants will learn ways to become supportive allies and the power their support has on building an inclusive culture.

These are all very new and exciting ways that we are providing increased education and visibility around LGBTQ issues and resources. But we aren't stopping there!

Fannie Mae participated as a proud sponsor in the DC Capital Pride Festival on June 11. Our recruiting and Live Openly ERG members attended this event and provided information on Fannie Mae's commitment to Diversity & Inclusion.
