Statement from Fannie Mae CEO Hugh R. Frater

March 19, 2021

Sadly, this week’s events in the Atlanta area remind us that we live in a time when the horrific is commonplace. Fannie Mae stands with all the victims of this week’s shooting, as well as their families, loved ones, and members of the Asian community.

Solutions to our nation’s social challenges are often complicated, but core principles of right and wrong are clear. Hatred, prejudice, and racism against members of our Asian community – or any community – are wrong. Always. Our nation must do better. We can only do so by people and institutions of good will standing up to what we know is wrong – and standing for what we know is right. Every person, in every community in our nation should be able to live life free from the fear of senseless violence – both targeted and random – and free from hatred, prejudice, and racism. Our company joins the many millions across America committed to this cause.
