Statement by Brian Faith Vice President, Media and External Relations on Support for Housing Finance Agencies

The Administration's new initiative to bolster state and local Housing Finance Agencies (HFAs) will enable the HFAs to continue providing flexible, low-cost financing for low-income and first-time homebuyers, and multifamily developments where low- and very low-income renters reside. Fannie Mae is committed to working with the Administration, FHFA and our industry partners to rapidly implement the HFA initiative, and we will continue to support the HFAs over the long term by providing much-needed liquidity in this key market sector.

Fannie Mae exists to expand affordable housing and bring global capital to local communities in order to serve the U.S. housing market. Fannie Mae has a federal charter and operates in America's secondary mortgage market to enhance the liquidity of the mortgage market by providing funds to mortgage bankers and other lenders so that they may lend to home buyers. Our job is to help those who house America.
