Fannie Mae is committed to working with our partners to help those impacted by major disasters rebuild their lives and their communities.

Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma made landfall within 8 weeks of each other during 2005 and destroyed or made unlivable more than 300,000 houses. Hurricane Katrina alone forced 770,000 people to evacuate the region and many remain away from their homes today.

We are using all our resources, including investment capital, employee volunteers, and housing expertise, to help our partners respond to one of the worst housing crises in U.S. history in the FEMA-designated Gulf Opportunity Zone, or GO Zone.
