Family & Lifestyle

At Fannie Mae, we recognize that our employees have multi-faceted lives that include family obligations and varying leisure time interests as well as their diligent and creative contributions to helping the company meet its goals. We also realize that it's becoming more and more difficult to fit work into a 9-5 schedule and the rest of one's life into the "after 5 and weekends" time slot.

That's why Fannie Mae offers a number of health and work/life programs to support our employees' needs for better balance in their lives. Whether you are single or married, a parent raising children or an adult providing care for parents -- balancing career and personal needs can be a real challenge. That is why Fannie Mae has established an array of benefits to help enhance the quality of our employees' lives and enable them to perform their jobs better.

  • Vacation/Holidays: For employees below the Director level, annual vacation leave is based on years of service: 15 days for less than three full years of service, and 20 days for three full years of service or more. In a typical year, there are 12 paid holidays, of which 10 are fixed and two are "floating."

  • Business Casual Dress: Employees can wear casual business dress, as appropriate, to give them a measure of comfort as they go about the business of making home-buying dreams come true.

  • Volunteer Programs: Our Crest of the WAVE Award recognizes employees whose volunteer activities have helped make a difference in our communities. With Dollars for Doers, employees who volunteer 25 hours or more per year are eligible to receive a grant for the organization at which they volunteer.

  • Childbirth/Adoption and Dependent Sick Leave: Four weeks are available to the mothers and fathers of newborns as well as to adoptive parents. Five paid days per year are available to employees for the care of sick dependents.

  • Emergency Child Center and Childcare Vouchers: Up to 25 days per year are available at our center in Washington, DC, when employees' regular caregivers are unexpectedly unavailable. Employees outside Washington, DC are offered an emergency childcare voucher program for up to 25 days.

  • Flexible Work Options: Teleworking enables qualified employees to work out of the home, or off-site, for part of their regular work schedules. With our Compressed Work Schedule program, employees have the option of working fewer days with each work day extending beyond their normal schedules, therefore accomplishing the same amount of work during a given pay period.

    • With Flextime, employees work the same amount of hours and days, but their work day may begin earlier or later than normal providing they have a set time and it's within "core hours."

    • Part-Time Work allows employees to work fewer hours than the standard full-time schedule, permitting them to fulfill other necessities in their lives. Reduction in time worked will result in reduction in pay and benefits.

    • With Job Sharing, two similarly skilled employees split the responsibilities of one job function; work hours and responsibilities are split on the basis of time, tasks, or customers served.

    • Our Phase Back Program provides new parents the option of a gradual transition back into full-time work following the birth or adoption of a child.

  • Interested in going back to school? Fannie Mae's Assistance for Collegiate Education (ACE) program pays up to full tuition and certain expenses for undergraduate and graduate degree programs related to any aspect of our business.

  • Thinking about buying a new home? Fannie Mae provides an Employer-Assisted Housing loan that can be used toward closing costs, down payment, or a permanent rate buy-down. This forgivable loan -- which supports our critical mission of helping more Americans realize the dream of homeownership -- is available to employees below the Director level who have completed 180 days of Fannie Mae employment.

  • Interested in assessing your current general health? Throughout the year, Fannie Mae employees (and their spouses and domestic partners) can take advantage of our free health assessment. Between a health assessment questionnaire, basic blood work, body fat calculation, blood pressure reading, glaucoma screening, hearing test, and more, employees receive a comprehensive look at their general health and receive feedback on the areas they should be paying attention to. For completing the health assessment and attending a group counseling session on the results, employees receive a Healthy Living Day off!

These are just some of the benefits Fannie Mae offers its employees to help them balance the obligations that we all face today. Eligibility requirements may differ for each benefit plan or program. If you are selected for an interview with Fannie Mae, you will receive more details about these requirements.
